||Guru brahma Gurur vishnu
Gurur Devo Maheshwaraha
Guru Saakshaat parabrahma
tasmaishree guruve namaha||
The above sanskrit shloka has the meaning like ‘Guru is Lord Brahma ( The creator), Guru is Lord Vishnu(The preserver) and Guru is Lord Maheshwara or Shiva( The Destroyer), The Trimurthis or trinitis of Hindu religion.. Guru is the ultimate absolute(Parabrahma swaroopa) and I bow to Him…
The term ‘Guru‘ is a sanskrit word which finds it’s meaning in English dictionary as well.. meaning the ‘dispeller of ignorance or darkness’ , a spiritual teacher… On occasion of Guru Poornima, this post of mine is dedicated to all Gurus.. This day(Full Moon day or PourNami or PoorNima of Aashadha Maasa) is celebrated to express the gratitude towards the Gurus..
Hindu religion has found many vedanta gurus like Jagadguru Shri Adi Shankaracharya( Advaitha Vedanta), Guru Shri Madhwacharya (Dwaita Vedanta) , Guru Shri Ramanujachaarya (Vishishtaadvaitha).
Guru Dattatreya(Avatar of Trinity or Trimurthis), Guru Raghavendra Swamy(avatar of Prahalada), Shri Brahma Chaithanya Maharaj, Shri Shirdi Sai baba are the great incarnations of Gods or are worshipped next to Gods.. Today’s Yoga techniques are founded by Guru Patanjali (Yoga Sutra Guru)…..
So today we can express our gratitude to Gurus in the form of:-
Helping the needy with whatever charity possible, Chanting beejaaakshari mantras like “Om shree Guru Raghavendraaya Namaha or “Om Sai Shri Sai Jaya Jaya Sai”, Decoration of the idols and images by shodashopachara puja and visiting satsang/bhajans ,singing devaranama etc…
If one has watched the movie ‘Sandhya raaga’, the song ‘Deena naa bandiruve‘ from the movie where the hero of the movie ( Played by karnataka rathna Dr Rajkumar) who sings this song in front of a classical music Guru seeking to learn music lessons from him is very apt and shows how the Guru-shishya parampara/tradition existed in India.
