Palak or Spinach or simply paalaak soppu is a type of green leafy vegetable which is very nutritious with lots of proteins, iron, vitamins and minerals..
There are various dishes one could make using palak leaves.. In our home, my mother usually makes palak tovve.. Other varieties are Palak Poori and Palak Paratha…
Though personally I feel the taste doesn’t show much much difference unlike other parathas, because of 2 major benefits we can make these parathas for kids.. They are ::
- Since it is highly nutritious, we can give it easily to kids if they do not prefer side dishes just like chapathi or other rotis..
- The rich green color tempts the kids to eat their breakfast/lunch without any trouble..
Ingredients needed are ::
Palak leaves ಪಾಲಕ್ ಸೊಪ್ಪು – 1 bunch big –> Cleaned, chopped ಹೆಚ್ಚಿ ತೊಳೆದಿದ್ದು
Jeera ಜೀರಿಗೆ- 1 tbspn
Green chillies ಹಸಿರು ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ – 2 to 3
Ginger or shunti ಶುಂಠಿ- 1″ piece
Coriander seeds or Dhaniya ಧನಿಯಾ ಕಾಳು- 1 tspn
Wheat flour ಗೋಧಿ ಹಿಟ್ಟು- 1 cup
Ref Oil ಹಿಟ್ಟು ಕಲಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸುಡಲು ಎಣ್ಣೆ- To roast and knead the dough..
 First clean Palak leaves with salt and turmeric and put in boiling water and boil for 5 mins..Cool the leaves.
 Now, grind palak leaves, Dhaniya seeds, Ginger, Green chillies, Jeera to a smooth paste by adding little water..
 Now, in a mixing bowl, put wheat flour, ground paste from step 2, salt, and 2 spoon refined oil and knead the dough very well.. Keep it aside to rest for 15-20 mins..
 Now, roll out dough one by one into circles and roast both sides on tawa smearing oil on both sides..
 Serve hot with chutney or sambar or Raitha.. Do let me know how it turns out?? 🙂
