In everyday life, we tend to get exposed to a lot of things, be at work or at home or outside world and many a times get stressed out.We show our stress and anger on poor children/others family members and yell at them knowingly or unknowingly, make the task in-hand half done or incomplete.
There are various ways one can combat stress and keep themselves happy and calm. Among them one of the most powerful technique is meditation or Dhyana(In sanskrit and kannada) .. Meditation is a practice to keep the mind focussed, calm, self-controlled so that it doesn’t wander as and where it wants. We all know that our mind wanders and thinks about millions of things in fraction of a second.. To keep it focussed on one particular thing and developing a kind of presence of mind, meditation is needed.
As assumed by many meditation is not just done by Yogis.. It is a part and parcel of our everyday life.. Meditation keeps us calm and happy..
There are various ways a meditation could be done and there is no hard and fast rule:::-
In Hindu tradition, people meditate infront of God while doing pooja procedures ( called Shodashopachara Pooja or 16 ways of worshipping Gods and Dhyana or meditation is one of the steps ), some meditate by chanting (mantras of) Lords Shiva or Lord Vishnu or Lord Rama or Lord Venkateshwara or Lord Krishna’s names whereever they are currently. Be while travelling by bus, train or waiting in traffic jam or whichever might be the place.. Some just chant the powerful chant ‘OM’.. My grandmother chants names of Lord Rama(and Guru Brahmachaitanya maharaj) using powerful rudraksha beads…
When I attended Yoga classes, I was trained in Breathing or PraNayaama techniques which definitely needs a GURU for performing the practice.. That is another form of meditation. One can also chant Lord’s names or mantras by sitting straight posture ( that is by keeping the spinal chord erect or various asanas ) which successfully generates positive flows and cleans all the chakras of the human body, thereby creating positive effects on the mind and body.
Whichever be the way, one can do meditation according to what suits them and above all what they believe that is good for them.. But there are many benefits with meditation which has been proved medically as well .. They are :-
- Less anxiety
- Controls blood pressure
- Positive mood
- Clear skin and stronger teeth ( With various praNayama techniques)
- Reduces stress by decreasing stress harmones
Or in other words it is good for all the 4 spheres of a person. Namely, Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of a human body(For complete well-being) ..
